Classification of odontogenic cysts (Table)
💡IMPORTANT CHANGES
Two lesions previously (2005) classified as odontogenic tumors have been classified as odontogenic cysts.
Keratcystic odontogenic tumor re-designated as “Odontogenic keratocyst” is listed as an Odontogenic cyst
Calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor re-designated as “Calcifying odontogenic cyst” is listed as an Odontogenic cyst
Orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst is a distinct odontogenic cyst. It is not a variant of Odontogenic keratocyst.
The classification avoids listing the variants of cysts (though they are odontogenic cysts) like the “Eruption cyst” (variant of Dentigerous cyst) and the “Residual” and “Lateral” cysts (variants/subsets of Radicular cyst).
